A DAY FOR GIRLS' HEALTH: Partnering with Slidell Memorial Hospital. A Day for Girls' Health is a health fair project which provides information on a variety of
topics affecting girls' health.
CHRISTMAS FOR OUR CHILDREN: JAS members spend a day in December with community preschool children visiting with Santa, face painting, and treating to cookies and punch.
COLLEGE BOUND SCHOLARSHIPS: Recognizing education as a top priority, JAS awards scholarships to deserving graduating seniors at each of the four public high schools.
COOKING WITH CARE:
Each month JAS purchases and prepares a meal for the Mt. Olive AME soup kitchen to be served to citizens in need.
CHILD WELFARE PROJECT HEARTS UNITED: An ongoing, hands-on service project that focuses one-on-one with a single mother and her children to meet the
basic needs of food, shelter, clothing and/or emotional support, all in the hopes of breaking the cycle of dependency.
GROOVIN' SNACKS, MOVIN' KIDS: Working with day care and elementary school children, this project is aimed at educating our children to make healthier choices regarding
nutrition and exercise through hands on materials, games, exercises and visual aids.
JA WATER DAY:
JAS volunteers provide a day of water – filled fun to the participants of Slidell Memorial Hospital’s “Fit as a Firefighter” Summer Camp for overweight children. JAS entertains 80 local children with a Water Education Puppet Show and an energetic afternoon of water activities.
JA WOMEN'S BUILD: JAS ladies volunteer for a day of building Habitat Humanity homes in East St. Tammany Parish.
JUNIORS IN SERVICE: This project teaches leadership and communication skills to Juniors in high school. The participants must complete 12 hours of community service.
LITERACY LIAISON:
JAS volunteers read with 2nd & 3rd graders individually or in small groups in an effort to improve their reading skills.
PROVIDING C.A.S.H. (College and Scholarship Help): A project aimed at assisting high-school students, especially those at an economic disadvantage, with college and scholarship applications.
